Post-Masters Clinical Nurse Specialist (On-line)

Post-Masters Certificate in Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist On-line

Nurses with a master’s degree in nursing will enhance their career opportunities by becoming a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). In the healthcare setting, the CNS is the nursing expert in handling complex patient care issues, for teaching and mentoring staff nurses and designing and evaluating system-wide quality improvement programs. Additionally, a CNS is the minimal expectation for teaching nursing in academic settings.

The program is taught on-line in a flexible and student-centered format with course and faculty availability seven days a week. Students need not be a resident of Michigan to be in the program. Clinical sites and qualified preceptors are identified near the student’s home to complete the required clinical component in the role of the CNS.

The certificate program includes advanced learning in the areas of physical assessment, pathophysiology and pharmacology. Course content is focused on the competencies of CNS practice and includes 500 supervised practice hours to be completed over two semesters. At completion, the nurse will be eligible to sit for the certification examination for the Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
