Interprofessional Curriculum
The interprofessional education (IPE) non-degree-bearing program, with a self-paced didactic component (0 credit course) and variable credits, is designed to equip learners with the essential knowledge and skills required to excel in interdisciplinary, patient-centered healthcare settings. This program emphasizes the importance of effective communication, teamwork and mutual respect among learners from multiple professions who learn together to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.
Learners in the IPE program will not just study but actively analyze various healthcare professionals' distinct roles and expertise. They will understand how individual uniqueness and a multidisciplinary approach facilitate efficient conflict resolution and improve patient outcomes. Importantly, they will take on active roles within interprofessional teams, promoting a hands-on learning approach.

Course Description:
The Interprofessional Education (IPE) non-degree-bearing program, with a self-paced didactic component (0-credit course), includes modules covering foundational knowledge of team-based care and collaborative practice as outlined in the IPEC competencies. The modules use a case-based interactive learning approach with realistic patient and family scenarios seen in a variety of settings. General categories of interprofessional competencies include knowledge of team members’ roles, communication and conflict-management strategies. This course is designed for students from various disciplines to develop collaborative skills with a shared vision of interprofessional healthcare related teams. Guided by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies: values and ethics, roles and responsibilities, communication and teamwork, students work in interdisciplinary teams, address healthcare issues, gain hands-on experience and deepen their understanding of global health and well-being.
Interprofessional Collaborative Response to Human Trafficking is an interprofessional learning experience that prepares learners to recognize, assess and respond to individuals at risk for or experiencing human trafficking through trauma-informed and collaborative practice. Participants will engage in a simulated clinical scenario featuring standardized patients demonstrating realistic warning signs of trafficking across healthcare, social and community environments.

This course is designed for students from various disciplines to develop collaborative skills with a shared vision of an interprofessional healthcare related teams. Guided by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) competencies: values and ethics, roles and responsibilities, communication and teamwork, students work in interdisciplinary teams, address healthcare issues, gain hands-on experience and deepen their understanding of global health and well-being.
The purpose of this IPE experience is to engage multidisciplinary teams of students and faculty from a variety of disciplines to design and build an assistive device (not previously available on the market), which will improve the life of a person with physical disabilities. Additionally, the further development of the device into a business or entrepreneurial endeavor, which could distribute the device to others with similar disabilities, will be taught and encouraged. Students will contribute to the project from the perspective of their field of study.
