Healthcare Operations Management was developed based on feedback from industry executives. The curriculum offers two concentration tracks:
- Population Health
- Digital Health
You will gain experience in exciting, innovative courses, such as AI and Machine Learning in Healthcare, Emergency Management and Post- acute Care & Transitions of Care. Upon graduation, you will be ready to serve as a key leader in a variety of healthcare settings.

Online and Hybrid Classes
The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Operations Management degree is offered in a variety of formats that include classes online and hybrid to meet the needs of students living and working in the metropolitan area.
Not all classes and times are offered every semester in every format. Talk with an advisor to create a plan that will work for your schedule.
Full- or part-time
Students can transfer in any semester and progress with a full-time or part-time schedule.

All faculty are currently practicing or former healthcare administrators; all full-time faculty have doctoral degrees in their field of expertise.

Career networking as a student
Throughout the curriculum, students will have opportunities to engage in various networking activities with healthcare executives and learn about current topics and issues of interest to healthcare. Students will learn what questions to ask to solve healthcare problems unique to various healthcare settings and populations and how to critically think about solutions.
The HOM program will provide internship placement for students. Students will also complete a capstone course near the end of their course of study, collaboratively working on a group-based project.

HOM Admission
To be admitted to the Healthcare Operations Management program, applicants must meet the entrance requirements of the University. In addition, to gain acceptance to the program students must fulfill the following criteria:
Freshmen
- A minimum high school GPA of 2.50
- Have completed two years of high school mathematics with a grade of C or higher.
- Scores on the College Entrance Examination Board (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) will also be examined but could be optional.
High school graduates who are properly prepared to undertake the Healthcare Operations Management program should have a college preparatory program as outlined in the "Recommended High School Preparation" section of this catalog under Admission to the University.
Transfer
Transfer students must have
- a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.00
- must complete Detroit Mercy placement tests in English composition and mathematics.
Satisfying the MTA (Michigan Transfer Agreement) at a Michigan community college may shorten your list of core requirements at Detroit Mercy.
Conditional Admission
Conditional admission may be granted to those students whose academic achievement falls below the standards required for full-admissions status. In such cases, the applicant may be required to fulfill course work and/or conditions before full-admissions status is granted. Application is free online.

Accreditation
University of Detroit Mercy is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission – and includes the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Operations Management degree.
The HOM program is structured to align with the Association of University Program in Health Administration (AUPHA) certification with program competencies derived from the Healthcare Leadership Alliance (HLA) Competency Model. Faculty are active in AUPHA as well as the Midwest Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (MCACHE) the local chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
