Clinical Affiliations

Students rotate to various local hospitals where the Program has clinical affiliations. Affiliations are designed to provide depth and breadth of clinical experience. Students administer regional anesthesia (including spinal, epidural, axillary, and other blocks) at several of these sites.

Trinity Health System

• St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, Pontiac, Michigan map
  • A 300 bed suburban community hospital, it is one clinical home base of the Program. Students rotate here for orientation, pediatrics, ambulatory, epidural anesthesia, pain management, and obstetrics as well as general surgery and open-heart surgery.
• St Mary Mercy Hospital, Livonia Michigan map
  • A community hospital with a variety of cases.

Oakwood Health System

• Oakwood Hospital Medical Center, Dearborn, Michigan map
  • A large suburban community hospital where students gain experience in all types of care including open-heart, obstetrics and general surgery. Oakwood Health System is a clinical home base of the program and a Top 100 Heart Hospital.
• Oakwood Annapolis Hospital, Wayne, Michigan map
  • A suburban community hospital where students gain experience in general surgery, and also anesthesia outside the OR.
• Oakwood Southshore Medical Center, Trenton, Michigan map
  • A suburban community hospital where students gain experience in general surgery.

Detroit Medical Center and VA

• Veterans Administration Hospital, Detroit, Michigan map
  • A large tertiary referral hospital affiliated with the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Students gain experience with complicated patients, regional anesthesia, and in a variety of surgical specialties.
• Harper Hospital, Detroit, Michigan map
  • A large tertiary referral hospital affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University School of Medicine. Students gain experience with complicated patients, and in a variety of surgical specialties.
• Sinai-Grace Hospital, Detroit, Michigan map
  • A rotation in high-risk obstetrics and a second rotation in trauma occur at this urban site affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University School of Medicine.
• Children's Hospital of Michigan, Detroit Michigan map
  • Students gain experience with pediatric anesthesia at this tertiary-care referral center which is affiliated with the Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Henry Ford Health System

• Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit Michigan map
  • A 900-bed, tertiary care, teaching and research facility which is a level 1 trauma center located in Detroit's New Center area. Specializing in advanced anesthesia practice involving neurosurgical, cardiovascular, high-risk obstetrics, pediatrics, and transplant procedures.
• Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Wyandotte, Michigan map
  • A suburban community hospital where students gain experience in general, vascular, ambulatory, and pediatrics.
• Henry Ford Fairlane, Dearborn Michigan map
  • Featuring a concentration on rapid outpatient turnover, and axillary blocks.
• Henry Ford West Bloomfield, West Bloomfield Michigan map
  • Students are exposed to rapid outpatient turnover, and ankle blocks.
• Henry Ford Macomb, Clinton Township, Michigan map
  • A community hospital with a variety of experience for students.

Ascension Health System, and Independent

• Providence Hospital, Southfield Michigan map
  • Students perform anesthesia for a comprehensive variety of cases.
• Providence Park- Novi, Novi Michigan map
  • Students perform anesthesia for ambulatory cases.
• Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc Michigan map
  • Students perform anesthesia for a variety of cases in a private practice setting.

  • A large urban hospital with a variety of cases including cardiovascular and trauma.

  • Students perform a variety of cases in a community hospital with an open-heart program.

Mission experience

In line with the Mission and ministry, for 10 years the program has allowed senior students to accompany mission trips to give volunteer anesthesia care in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, India, and other destinations. Student costs have been partially sponsored at times by clinical instructors, and the program regularly fund-raises to support the trips themselves.
